Special Clinic Visit!

Earlier this week at "the Clinic" where Katelyn gets her weekly check ups, Katelyn found out that a special visitor would be arriving at the clinic on Thursday ( today) .

American Idol winner Lauren Alana would be visiting the clinic!! Katelyn was so excited she was determined to come back later in the week to meet Lauren despite having to enter the clinic doors even when she didn't have to.  So since Kimberly was out of school due to Christmas break naturally,:) she went along.   If you want details on the day, ask Katelyn , she had an crazy awesome experience with the singer!!

Week of Gratitude

This Festive week of Thanksgiving, Katelyn has off:)

Due to increasing immune levels yet not quite high enough to reach the next chemo treatment, Katelyn has been given a week off for Thanksgiving to get her immune and blood counts even higher and to recuperate before her next week Chemo round. After the holiday, her next Chemo treatment phase will consist of a 4- day stay in the hospital every 2 weeks.

While we are thankful for Katelyn everyday she is home and happy, we pray she will be able to get through this next phase even better than the last.

Happy Thanksgiving Blog Followers:)

Bucket of Lemons

Rough Week- Weekend

  • Thursday afternoon, due to much Chemo the past month Katelyn's immune level has been close to zero. Because of the lowness, unfortunately Katelyn ran a high fever at home,  & our family decided she needed to go to the  hospital, to make sure she was alright.
  • While in the hospital she caught a stomach bug that kept her in longer than we planned. Then Friday night, her blood pressure dropped and nurses and interns panicked  and sent her to the PICU for the next 24 hours. Naturally, Katelyn freaked out about going to the PICU and her blood pressure rose:) and her vitals stayed normal.
  • When the doctors were convinced she was fine they let her go back to her room late Saturday afternoon. Finally Sunday afternoon, after being monitored for everything for 24 hours, she returned home!  It was  whirlwind of a weekend but we made it through and Katelyn really hates fevers!

Week Update: Lows & Highs

  • This week, Katelyn went into Chemo on Monday because the clinic that she receives her chemo at in T.C. Thompson's was closed for her usual Tuesday appointments.
  • She received another round of Chemo on Monday, had to have a shot that she decided to have so she wouldn't have to be monitored overnight, she anticipated the shot would be really painful, after many doctors had told her so, but got through better than expected, and was glad to come home the same day.
  • She slept and had a better day on Tuesday, dealing with low immune counts which will keep her pretty low for the next few weeks.
  • So far this week has been steady and hopefully she will feel even better come the weekend.
(she tends to feel better as the week goes on each week until her next Tuesday chemo treatments)

But today, she was feeling fine and dandy and was excited to enjoy in the festivities of our church's Trunk or Treat!
